What is a bedside cot?
A bedside crib (also known as bassinet or co-sleeper) is a baby cot that attaches to your adult bed, allowing your infant to sleep comfortably next to you. This is a secure form of co-sleeping that doesn't increase the risk of SIDS as bedsharing does. It can also help you bond with your new baby.
They usually come with a side that can be adjusted so that you can easily reach your newborn throughout the night for feeding and comforting. This is especially useful for mothers who are recovering from the c-section. Many of them are portable or foldable, so you can take them on trips and use them as a temporary sleep solution for infants who aren't quite ready to move to a full-sized cot.
Look for a crib with a mattress that is breathable, as well as a protective cover that will keep your baby safe from staining. You might also want purchase some baby-safe accessories like the blanket or teether.
If you're looking for a long-term option, some cribs come with conversion kits that let you turn them into a cot or toddler bed when the time comes. This can extend their lifespan and make the transition smoother. Some even have a detachable top section that transforms into a bassinet, while others can be used as a regular or a high-rise adult bed. This is a good choice for families who are planning on frequent travel or switching rooms at night. Consider the size of your bedroom to ensure that you fit in the crib comfortably. A lot of cribs have an adjustable riser that can be used to create an inclined position for babies who suffer from reflux.

She loved that it didn't sway like other models, which meant it wasn't waking her at night while she was trying to soothe her baby during feeds. The Maxi-Cosi Lora
The Iora is a bassinet that can be placed at the bedside that helps parents feel closer to their infant as they sleep. It adjusts up and down and can be moved through three slide positions to fit beside the parent's bed, or in the corner of the room to ensure that your baby is within arm's reach. The mesh siding lets air flow through, and allows you to see your baby easily. You can also put away extra pajamas or supplies in the large storage basket beneath.
The Iora is a smaller bedside cot that folds flat. It also comes with a travel case which allows it to be taken anywhere. Our mum testers found it easy to move from room to room, and believed that it was a suitable size for a bedside cot, and not too big or small. The large storage basket is ideal for storing extra bedding or nappies.
This is a great choice for parents who wish to sleep together but don't want to share their bed. Also, if one of the parents has mobility issues like back pain or arthritis. Our mum testers were thrilled to be able to easily access their baby in the Iora and that it had an optional reflux incline that helped to reduce gas.
Our moms appreciate the fact that the mattress is in line with NICE guidelines that state to put the baby in a crib or Moses basket on its own (with no toys, blankets pillows, etc.). The mattress is also a good firm and comfortable for babies and sheets are easily available. It's not as light as some of the smaller cribs on our list, so if you prefer something lighter and easier to move, you can choose another alternative.
